Tuition

female drummerFancy yourself as a drummer? Know the basics but want to take your playing to the next level? Maybe you just fancy taking up a new hobby?

DrumWorks offers drum tuition to anyone who has an interest in drumming, whatever their age and ability. Ultimately, the aim is to help people reach their goals and realise their potential.

Drumming is all about enjoying yourself and having fun. The lessons are very relaxed and students are always able to work at their own pace. You will have the opportunity of learning everything from sight reading, music theory, techniques, rudiments and styles to working with clicks and backing tracks. Read what some students have said about the lessons they have had.

Tuition is given in a dedicated studio located 3 minutes walk from the main town centre of St Peter Port. Click here for location details.

If you are a parent looking for tuition for your child, it is important for you to know that Wayne has undergone relevant checks through the Criminal Records Bureau.

If you are interested in having lessons, or would like to find out more about DrumWorks, please contact Wayne Mahy, who will be only too pleased to hear from you.

Peripatetic Lessons

DrumWorks offers one-to-one tuition at the following schools in Guernsey: Melrose Junior School, Beechwood Preparatory School, St Sampson's High, Ladies’ College and Elizabeth College. If you are interested in your child receiving drum lessons during school time, please contact the Head of Music at the relevant school. See above for peripatetic rates.

Drum Grades

In addition to DrumWorks’ own teaching materials, students are able to follow the Rockschool syllabuses (www.rockschool.co.uk) which can lead to examinations up to grade 8. These qualifications are accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. Grade books can be purchased from DrumWorks or at www.musicroom.com.

Exams are taken at the DrumWorks studio twice a year, the first session in February and again in Novemeber. So far DrumWorks has a 100% pass rate. See chart below for the success rate.

Practice Kit

DrumWorks has an electronic practice kit available for use in a separate room at the studio. This is beneficial for students who do not possess a drum kit and those who may require a more focussed practice session away from the home environment. Practice sessions can either be booked for 15mins for £3 or 30mins for £5.

Hire Kits

DrumWorks also has six drum kits available for hire. There is a choice of electronic or accoustic kit and this is delivered to the student's house and set up. Prices range between £10 and £15 per week, depending on which kit is required.
